Etymology:
From an historic Shona empire and district containing the study area, Mbire, and Greek, sauros, "lizard."

Etymology: In honor of Michael Raath, hwo with other firsts reported fossils from teh Dande area, to honour his contribution to Zibabwean palaeontology adn teh fossil heritage of Zimbabwe.
Holotype: NHMZ 2222
Locality: Dande Communal Land, Mbire District, Mashonaland Central Province, Zimbabwe.

Horizon: Peebly Arkose Formation.
Biostratigraphy:
Age: Mid section of the ?Late Carnian Stage, Late Triassic Epoch, Late Triassic.
Material: Partial cranium, cervical, trunk, sacral and caudal vertebrae, rib fragmetns, partial pectoral and pelvic girdles, and partial forelimbs and hindlimbs.

NMZ 2547: Larger partial skeleton found with holotype.
