Genus: Notocolosus GONZALEZ RIGA, LAMANNA, DAVID, CALVO, & CORIA, 2016
Etymology: Greek, notos, "southern" and Latin, colossus; in reference to the gigantic size and Gondwana provenance of the new taxon.

Etymology: In honor of Dr. Jorge Gonzalez Parejas, who has collaborated and provided legal guidance on the research, protection, and preservation of dinosaur fossils from Mendoza Province for nearly two decades. In so doing, he has advised researchers on the creation of a nautral park that serves to protect dinosaur footprints in Mendoza.

Holotype: UNCUYO-LD 201

Locality: Cerro Guillermo, Malargue Department, southern-most Mendoza Province, Argentina.

Horizon: Plottier Formation, Neuquen Group.

Biostratigraphy:

Age:  Upper Coniacian-Lower Santonian Stage, Lower Senonian Subepoch, Gulp Epoch, Early Late Cretaceous.

Material: Anterior dorsal vertebra, anterior caudal vertebra, right humrus, and porximal end of a left pubis.

Referred material:

UNCUYO-LD 302: Seven anterior partial caudal vertebrae and haemal arches, a complete and articulated right astragalus and pes of a smaller individual.
