Etymology: In reference to the village of Sanaba in Sichuan Province, and Greek, sauros, “lizard”: “Sanba lizard”.

Etymology:

Holotype: IVPP V. 156A (as per McPHEE, UPCHURCH, MANNION, SULLIVAN, BUTLER, & BARRETT, 2016)

Locality: Locality 1, Changshanling in Potzewan, about 4 km NW of Weiyuan City, Weiyuan region, Sichuan (Szechwan) Province, China.

Horizon: Maanshan Member, Ziliujing Formation, Kuangyuan Series.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Toarcian Stage, Upper Lias Epoch, Late Early Jurassic.

Material: Disarticulated middle-posterior dorsal vertebral series, consisting of 3 complete centra with partial neural arches.

Referred material:

IVPP V156B: 2 centra from the dorsal vertebral series, lacking neural arches, 2 sacral centra from a small individual, an almost complete anterior-middle caudal vertebra, several distal caudal centra, numerous fragmentary rib shafts, proximal chevron, scapular remains from at least three different elements, potentially including the left and right elements of a single individual, a partial left forelimb consisting  of the distal half of a humerus, complete ulna, and radius, and the proximal half of a single metacarpal, a femoral head from a small individual, a small ?distal tibia, a proximal fibula, a non-first digit pedal ungual and a humerus.
