Etymology: In honor of the Tehuelche Indians, who long inhabited the area where
this dinosaur was found and Greek, sauros, "lizard": Tehuelche lizard.

Etymology: In honor of Sr. Aldino Benitez, who discovered the holotype.

Locality: 43°10;3”S, 69°15’00W (World Geodetic System, 1984), Fernandez Estancia, Chubut Province, Patagonia, Argentina.
Horizon: Canadon Asfalto Formation.
Biostratigraphy:
Age: Possibly Callovian Stage, Upper Dogger Epoch, Middle Jurassic.
Material: Right scapulocaracoid, left humerus, left radius, left ulna, left
and right femora, left ischium, distal part of right ischium, left pubis, partial
right pubis, partial ilium, 10 partial dorsal vertebrae, at least 2 partial
sacral vertebrae, 1 caudal vertebra, dorsal rib fragments and skin impressions.
