Etymology: Tendaguria, in reference to the famous fossil locality of Tendaguru in Tanzania.

Species: tanzaniensis BONAPARTE, HEINRICH & WILD, 2000
Etymology: Tanzanensis, after Tanzania, the country where the holotype was collected.

Holotype: MB.R.2092.1 (NB4) and MB. R.2092.2 (NB5)

Locality: Nambango (site NB), about 15 km southeast from Tendaguru Hill, Lindi District, south-eastern Tanzania, East Africa.

Horizon: Probably Upper Dinosaur Member (Upper Saurian bed), Tendaguru Formation, Tendaguru Series.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Tithonian Stage, Malm Epoch, Late Jurassic.

Material: 2 associated anterior dorsal vertebrae.
