Etymology: Malagasy, Vahiny, "traveler or visitor"; reflecting teh rarity of this taxon in the Mahajanga Basin.

Species: depereti CURRY ROGERS & WILSON, 2014
Etymology: In honor of Charles Deperet, who described the original dinosaur material from Madagascar and presciently recognized the sauropod nature of the Malagasy osteoderms.

Holotype: UA 9940

Locality: Quarry MAD 96-07, Mahajanga Basin, Mahajana Province, Northwestern Madagascar.

Horizon: Continental “Maevarano Formation”.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Maastrichtian Stage, Uppermost Senonian Subepoch, Uppermost Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: Partial braincase including a partial supraoccipital, basioccipital, basisphenoid, right and left exoccipital-opisthotics, prootics, laterosphenoids and orbitosphenoids.

Referred material:

Locality: Quarry MAD 93-18, Mahajanga Basin, Mahajana Province, Northwestern Madagascar.

Horizon: Faces 1, Anembalemba Member, Maevarano Formation.
