Etymology: In reference to Yimen County, China, where the specimens where found and Greek, sauros, "lizard": Yimen lizard.

Etymology: In honor of C. C. Young for his contribution to studying Chinese dinosaurs.

Holotype: YXV 8701

Locality: Jiaojidain, Yuxi Prefecture, Yimen County, Yunnan Province, China.

Horizon: Fengjahe Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Early Jurassic.

Material: Nearly complete skull, parts of skeleton.

Paratype: YXV 8702: Damaged skull and partial skeleton.
