Genus: Yizhousaurus ZHANG, YOU, WANG & CHATTERJEE, 2018
Etymology: In reference to Yizhou the Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province, China, and Greek, sauros, "lizard."

Species: sunae ZHANG, YOU, WANG & CHATTERJEE, 2018
Etymology: In honor of Professor Ai-Lin Sun, for her great contribution ot Chinese vertebrate fossils, including those from Lufeng.

Holotype: BLFGT-ZLJ0033

Locality: Near Duwafang Village, Chuanjie Town, Lufeng County, Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China.

Horizon: Zhangjiao member, Lufeng Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Hettangian-Pliensbachian Stage, Middle Lias Epoch, Early Jurassic.

Material: An undistored skeleton including a well-presreved skull and mandible, a mostly complete vertebral series (9 cervicals, 14 dorsals, 3 sacarals and 5 anterior caudals), pectoral and pelvic girdles, forelimb (lacking both carpi) and both femora.
