Genus: Albertavenator EVANS, CULLEN, LARSON & REGO, 2017
Etymology: In reference to the Canadian province of Alberta, and Latin, venator, "hunter."

Etymology: In honor of Phillip J. Currie, who has orked extensively on the Late Cretaceous theropods of Alberta and whose work on the similarities between troodontids and birds advanced the study of paravians.

Holotype: RTMP 1993.105.0001

Locality: 25 m northeast of the Day Digs Bleriot Ferry Edmontosaurus Bonebed, located close to the Bleriot Ferry Corssing of the Red Deer River, approximately 22 km northwest of the town of Drumheller, Kneehill County, Alberta Province Canada.

Horizon: Horsethief Member, Horseshoe Canyon Formation (Lower Edmonton Formation), Edmonton Group.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Edmontonian age, lower Maastrichtian Stage, Upper Senonian subepoch, Upper Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: Incomplete left frontal, lacking the postorbital process.

Referred material:

Locality: Near Morrin Bridge, Kneehill County, Alberta Province Canada.

Horizon: Horsethief Member, Horseshoe Canyon Formation (Lower Edmonton Formation), Edmonton Group.
