Etymology: After the Alxa ("Alashan") Desert, Inner Mongolia and Greek, sauros, "lizard."

Species: elesitaiensis RUSSELL, & DONG, 1993
Etymology: Is named after the village of Elesitai near which the type material was found, Inner Mongolia.

Holotype: IVPP 88402

Locality: Approximately 106’5”E, 41’10”N, 23 km west of Tukemu Village in the Wulanbuhe Desert, eastern sector of the Alxa (Alashan) Desert, Inner Mongolia.

Horizon: Bayn Gobi Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Albian Stage? Middle Gallic Subepoch, Upper Early Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.

Material: Right dentary, 5 cervical vertebrae, cervical ribs, dorsal vertebrae, ribs, sacrum and 4 anterior sacral ribs, caudal vertebrae, scapulae, humeri, radii, ulnae, left carpals, and right distal carpal I, 3 fragmentary right metacarpals, phalanx I-1, II-1, II-2, III-1, III-2, phalanx I-2 ungual, Phalanx II-3 unguals, Ilia, shafts of ischium, and femur.
