Etymology: Greek, kainos “recent" and Greek, gnathus, "jaw": Recent jaw.

Species: collinsi R. M. STERNBERG, 1940
Etymology: In honor of the late Dr. W. H. Collins, for many years director of the Geological Survey of Canada.

Holotype: NMC P-3605/8776

Locality: Quarry no. 112, Steveville map area, about 1 1/2 miles due south of the mouth of Sand Creek, and about 1/2 mile east of the creek at this point, L.S.D. 15, Sec. 31, Tp. 20, Rge. 11. W. of 4th Mer., Dinosaur Provincial Park, Newell County, Alberta Province, Canada.

Horizon: Dinosaur Park Formation, upper Belly River Group (old upper Judith River Group).

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Judithian age, Middle Campanian Stage, middle Senonian subepoch, upper Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: Lower dentary.
