Genus: Chilesaurus NOVAS, SALGADO, SUAREZ, AGNOLIN, EZCURRA, CHIMENTO, CRUZ, ISASI, VARGAS, & RUBILAR-ROGERS, 2015
Etymology: In reference to Chile, where the specimen was found, and Greek, sauros, "lizard."

Species: diegosuarezi NOVAS, SALGADO, SUAREZ, AGNOLIN, EZCURRA, CHIMENTO, CRUZ, ISASI, VARGAS, & RUBILAR-ROGERS, 2015
Etymology: In honor of Diego Suarez, who at the age of 7, discovered the first bone remains in the Toqui Formation.

Holotype: SNGM 1835

Locality: Aysen, central Patagonian Cordillera, Chile.

Horizon: Toqui Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Late Tithonian Stage, Upper Malm Epoch, Late Jurassic.

Material: Nearly complete specimen of an immature specimen.

Paratype:

SNGM 1936: Pelvic girdle and hind limb elements associated but disarticualted.

SNGM-1937: Coracoids and forelimbs in articulation.

SNGM-1938: Dorsal vertbrae ribs, shoulder girdle, and articulated forelimbs.
