Etymology:

Etymology: In honor of Bryan Small, who discovered the type specimen.

Holotype: PEFO 10395

Locality: 34m below Black Forest Tuff at Billingsley and 1.5 to 3.1 m above Painted Desert Sandstone # 2, Petrified Forest, Apache County, Arizona.

Horizon: Upper Petrified Forest Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Revueltian, Early Norian Substage, Early Norian Epoch, Middle Late Triassic Epoch, Late Triassic.

Material: Partial skeleton including an incomplete cervical centrum, posterior dorsal vertebrae, 2 sacral vertebrae, caudal vertebrae, portions of fragmentary right and left ilia, proximal externity of right pubis, and considerable portion of left pubic shaft, complete though crushed right femur and fragmentary left femur, fragmentary right tibia and complete right astragalus, also a number of rib fragments and 1 chevron present.

Locality: Placerias quarry (UCMP A269, MNA 207C), Big Hollow Wash near Romero Springs, a small valley 6 1/2 miles (approximately 10.4 km) S 65"W of St. Johns, Apache County, Arizona.
Note: Located 0.3 miles northwest of Romero Springs at approximately Long. 109'28'W and lat. 34"27'N on the USGS St. Johns quadrangle of 1921.

Horizon: Bluewater Creek Formation, Lower Chinle Group.

Age: Adamanian, Latest Carnian Stage, Late Triassic Epoch, Late Triassic.

Material:

UCMP: 5 dorsal centra.

Note: HUNT, LUCAS, HECKERT, SULLIVAN & LOCKLEY, 1998 state these vertebrae are Herrerasaurid but do not belong to Chindesaurus.


Locality: Dinosaur Hollow, PEFO 085101 (PF 20, UCMP V84260), Just above Painted Desert Sandstone 2, Chinde Point N Area, Petrified Forest, Apache County, Arizona.

Horizon: Upper Petrified Forest Formation.
