Genus: Dracoraptor MARTILL, VIDOVIC, HOWELLS, & NUDDS, 2016
Etymology: Draco, alluding to the dragon of Wales, and Greek, raptor, "robber"; a commonly employed suffix for theropod dinosaurs.

Species: haniganorum emend  MARTILL, VIDOVIC, HOWELLS, & NUDDS, 2016
Etymology: In referene to Nick and Rob Hanigan who discovered the skeleton and generously donated it to Amgueddfa Cymur-National Museum of Wales.
Note: The authors used in incorrect ending, because the name is in honor of two people, the correct speclling should be -orum.

Holotype: NMW 2015.5G1-2015.5G.11

Locality: From a small rock fall at the base of the cliff on the east side of Lavernock Point, Wales, Southern United Kingdom.

Horizon: Bull Cliff Member, Blue Lias Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Hettangian Stage, Lowermost Lias Epoch, Earliest Jurassic.

Material: Disartulcated, but associated partial skeleton with elements of the skull, indluding both premaxillae, both maxillae, some teeth, a lacrimal, partial jugal, post orbital, squamosal, fragmentary lower jaws, and a possible hyoid, 2 cervical vertebrae, posterior elements of the vertebral columen (lumbar and caudal vertebrae), distal forelimb, ischium and pubis, hind limbs with femur, fragmetnary tibia with fibula. cervical ribs, theoracic ribs and several unidentified fragments.
