Genus: Eoabelisaurus POL & RAUHUT, 2012
Etymology: Greek, eos, "dawn," for the early occurrence of the new taxon, and Abelisaurus, type genus of the Abelisauridae.

Species: mefi POL & RAUHUT, 2012
Etymology: The species name refers to the popular abbreviation of the Museo Paleontologico Egidio Ferguilo (MEF)

Holotype: MPEF PV 3990

Locality: Jugo Loco Locality, close to teh village of Cerro Condor, Chubut, Argentina.

Horizon: Canadon Asfalto Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Aalenian-Bajocian Stage, Lower Dogger Epoch, Middle Jurassic.

Material: Posterior half of skull, 5 cervical, 9 dorsal, complete sacrum, and 27 caudal vertebrae, left and right scapulocoracoid, left and right humerus, radius and ulna, left and right distal carpal, left and right metacarpals I-IV, 5 phalanges (including 1 ungual) of the right hand, complete pelvic girdle, left and right femur, tibia, fibula, tarsals and metatarsals, and 12 phalanges (including 2 unguals) of the left and 8 phalanges (including 1 ungual) of the right pes.
