Etymology: Mandarian, Fujian, referring to Fujian Province, where the holotype was discovered, and Latin, venator, "hunter."

Etymology: Latin, prodigiosus, "bizarre", in reference to the odd hindlimb morphology preserved in this specimen.

Holotype: IVPP V31985 part and counterpart

Locality: Near Yangyuan Village, Zhenghe County, Nanping City, Fujian Province, China.

Horizon: nanyuan Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Tithonian Stage, Malm Epoch, Late Jurassic.

Material: Articulated and partially complete skeleton lacking skull, cervical and distal caudal vertebrae, and pes unguals.
