Etymology: "Fukui" refers to the Fukui Prefcutre in the central Japna, where the specimen was recovered, and Latin, venator, "hunter."

Etymology: The spcies name refers to the surprising combination of characters in this theropod dinosaur.

Holotype: FPDM-V8461

Locality: Kitadani Locality (Dinosaur Quarry), on the Sugiyama River, northern part of the city of Katsuyama, 36°7’N, 136°33’E, Fukui Prefecture, Honshu Island, Japan.

Horizon: Kitadani Formation, Akaiwa subgroup, Tetori Group.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Barremian Stage, Lower Gallic Subepoch, Lower Early Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.

Material: Incomplete right premaxilla with 2 isolated premaxillary teeth, left maxilla wit one isolated and four intact teeth, left lacrimal, right jugal, right posorbital, left squamosal, both frontals, braincase, possible left ectopterygoid, left pterygoid, right palatine, posterior part of right denary with two intact dentaray teeth, 8 cervical vertebrae, 10 dorsal vertebrae, 5 sacral, and 30 caudal vertebrae, several cervical ribs, dorsal ribs, gastralia, and chevrons, nearly complete scapulas and coroacids, most of both forelimbs, portions of both pubes, partial left ischium, and nearly complete hindlimbs.
