Etymology: Garuda, monstrous bird in Asian mythology and Greek, mimos, "mimic": Garuda mimic.

Species: brevipes BARSBOLD, 1981
Etymology: Latin, brevis, "short" and Latin, pes, "foot."

Holotype: GI No. SPS 100/13

Locality: Baynshirenskaya Svita (Baishin Tsav), Ömnögov (South Gobi), Mongolia.

Horizon: Bayanshiree beds (Bayanshiree Formation).

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Cenomanian-Turonian Stage, Upper Middle-Upper Gallic Subepoch, Lower Gulf Epoch, Late Middle-Early Late Cretaceous.

Material: Skull, lower jaw, right metatarsals and phalanges, and fragmentary skeleton.

Referred material:

Some of the material attributed to Archaeornithomimus from the Iren Dabasu may pertain to this genus.
