Etymology: Latin, hesperus, "west" and Greek, onychos, "claw."

Species: elizabethae LONGRICH & CURRIE, 2009
Etymology: In honor of the late Dr. Elizabeth Nichollis, who discovered the holotype.

Locality: South side of the Red Deer River, 20 km east of Dinosaur Provincial Park, Newell County, Alberta Province, Canada.

Age: Judithian age, Middle Campanian Stage, middle Senonian subepoch, upper Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: A partial pelvic girdle comprising of the pubes and ilia.

Note: The specimen has a paleopathology; the right pubic shaft has an unusal swelling not seen on the left side, and is considered to be a well-healed fracture.
