Genus: Huanansaurus LÜ, PU, KOBAYASHI, XU, CHANG, SHANG, LIU, LEE, KUNDRAT & SHEN, 2015
Etymology: In reference to "Huanan" (in Chinese Pinyin), which means southern China, and Greek, sauros, "lizard"; in reference to the dinosaur being discovered in Ganzhou of Jiangxi Province.

Etymology: In reference to Ganzhou Railway Station, Ganzhou City, Jiangxi Province, China, where the specimen was found, in Ganzhou.

Holotype: HGM41HIII-0443

Locality: In the vinicity of the Ganzhou Railway Station, Ganzhou City, Jiangxi Province, China.

Horizon: Nanxiong Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Campanian-Maastrichtian Stage, Senonian Subepoch, Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: Skull, cervical vertebrae, and fragmentary lower forelimb.
