Genus: Ichthyovenator ALLAIN, XAISANAVOG, RICHIR, & KHENTAVONG, 2012
Etymology: Greek, ichthos, "fish" and Latin, venator, "hunter": The generic name is in reference to the predominantly piscivorous diet of Spinosauridae.

Species: laosensis ALLAIN, XAISANAVOG, RICHIR, & KHENTAVONG, 2012
Etymology: In reference to the country of Laos, where the specimen was found.

Holotype: MDS KB10-01 to 15

Locality: Ban Kalum, Tang Vay area, Savannakhet Province, Laos.

Horizon: "Gres superieurs" Formatioin.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Barremian Stage, Lower Gallic Subepoch, Early Cretaceous Epoch- Cenomanian Stage, Upper Gallic Subepoch, Lowermost Gulf Epoch, Middle Cretaceous.

Material: Antepenultimate dorsal vertebra, the neural spines of the last dorsal vertebra, the first and second caudal vertebrae, five incomlpete sacral vertebrae found in articulation, ilia, the right pubis, ischia, and a posterior dorsal rib.
