Etymology: Tupi, ita, "stone", Tupi, guyra, "bird", referring to the avemetatarsalian nature of the specimen.

Species: occulta NETO, PRETTO, MARTINELLI, BATTISTA, GARCIA, MÜLLER, SCHMITT, MELO, FRANCISCHINI, SCHULTZ,PINHEIRO, SOARES & KELLNER, 2025
Etymology: Latin, occulta, "hidden" referring to the fact that the remains were initially identified as being "mixe up" with other indeterminate cynodont fragments with which they were collected.

Holotype: UFRGS-PV-1365 (a)

Locality: Schoenstatt Sancturay Fossil Site, 52°27'0.5"W, 29°44'26.2"S, Santa Cruz do Sul Municipality, Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil.

Horizon: Santa Cruze Sequence, Santa Maria Formation.

Biostratigraphy: Santacruzodon Assemblage Zone.

Age: Carnian Stage, Lower Late Triassic Epoch, Late Triassic.

Material: Left ilium.
