Etymology: In reference to Sao Joao do Polesine, the town where the specimens were found.

Holotype: ULBRA-PVT058

Locality: Buriol ravine, 29°39'30.78"S, 53°26'08.97"W, Sao Joao do Polesine, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.

Horizon: Alemoa Member, Santa Maria Formation, Candelaria sequence, Parana Basin.

Biostratigraphy: Hyperodapedon Assemblage Zone.

Age: Carnian Stage, Late Triassic Epoch, Late Triassic.

Material: Partially articulated skeleton including skull roof, braincase, 23 pre-sacral, 2 sacral and 9 tail vertebrae, right scapula, left humerus, paired pelvic girdle, femur, tibia, and fibula.
