Etymology: In reference to the Jianchang County, Liaoning Province, China, where the specimen was found, and Greek, sauros, "lizard."

Etymology: In refernce to the Yixian Formation, where the specimen was found.

Locality: Niujiaogou, Jianchang County, Liaoning Province, China.

Horizon: Yixan Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Early Cretaceous.

Material: Skull and nearly complete skeleton.
