Genus: Joaquinraptor IBIRICU, LAMANNA, ALVAREZ, CERDA, CAGLIANONE, CARDOZO, LUNA & MARTINEZ, 2025
Etymology: Joaquin, in tribute to the son of the first authoer (L.M.I.) and the informal name given to the locality when the skeleton of the taxon was discovered (Valle Joaquin), and Latin, raptor, "Theif."

Etymology: In honor of Dr. Gabrieal Andres Casal for his many contributions to knowledge of the Cretaceous palaeontology and geology of central Patagonia (including the formal recognition and naming of the formation from which this megaraptorid was recovered).

Holotype: UNPSJB-PV 112

Locality: Valle Joaquin, headwaters of the Rio Chico, east of the southeastern shore of Lago Colhue Huapi, Chubut Province, Patagonia, Argentina.

Horizon: Lago Colhue Huapi Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Maastrichtian Stage, Senonian Subepoch, Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: A partially articulated partial skeleton of a single individual that includes the mostly disarticulated partial skull; right maxilla, skull roof and braincase, probably right postorbital, right quadrate, both dentaries, in situ and isolated teeth, complete or nearly complete elements of the postcranial axial; atlantal intercentrum, 3 caudal vertebrae, dorsal ribs, other rib and probably gastralium fragments, haemal arch and appendicualr elements; left scapuolocoracoid, humerus, radius, and ulna, rigth manual ungual II, left femur much of the right tibia, the distal end of the probable right pedal phalanx III-3, the right pedal ungual III and the possible partial left pedal phalanx IV-1 and numerous indeterminate fragments.
