Etymology: Khaan, Mongolian for ruler.

Etymology: In honor of Malcolm McKenna, in recognition of his passionate interest in and efforts towards the exploration for fossils in Cretaceous deposits of Mongolia.

Holotype: IGM 100/1127

Locality: Mark’s Second Egg, Ukhaa Tolgod, near the salt extraction settlement of Daus, northeastern Nemegt Basin, Gurvan Tes Somon, Ömnögov (South Gobi), Mongolia.

Horizon: Djadokhta Formation or the Barun Goyot Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Middle Campanian Stage, Senonian Subepoch, Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: A complete skeleton, slightly disarticulated in the thorax.

Note: Has furcula.

Referred material:

IGM 100/1002: A nearly complete skeleton lacking distal half of the tail.
Note: Found in close proximity to the holotype.
