Etymology: Greek, krypto, "covered" and Greek, ops, "face"; in reference to the pitted surface and impressed vessel tracks on the maxilla, which is indicative of a firmly attached, possibly keratinous, integument or covering.

Etymology: Greek, palaios, "old"; in reference to its Early Cretaceous age.

Holotype: MNN GAD1, MNN GAD1-1, GAD1-3 to GAD 1-8, GAD1-2.

Locality: 'Gadoufaoua' on the western edge of the Tenere Desert, N 16°26', E9°7', Niger.

Horizon: Elrhaz Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Aptian-Albian Stage, middle Gallic subepoch, lower Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.

Material: Partial skeleton including a left maxilla, several and partial vertebrae and ribs, and an articulated pelvic girdle and sacrum.
