Genus: Maehary KELLNER, HOLGADO, GRILLO, PRETTO, KERBER, PINHEIRO, SOARES, SCHULTZ, LOPES, ARAUJO & MÜLLER, 2022
Etymology: After Ma'ehary, a Guarani-Kaiowa location that roughtly means "who looks to the sky". This alludes to the putative pterosauromroph affinties of this taxon.

Etymology: In honor of Dr. Jose F. Bonaparte, a prominent Argentine paleontologist, for his tremendous contribution to the developemnt of vertebrate paleontology in South America.
Holotype: CAPPA/UFSM 0300
Locality: Linha Sao luiz Site, 29°33'45"S, 53°26'448"W, deactivated quarry located 1.5 km NE of the city of Faxinal do Soturno, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.
Horizon: Lower section of the Caturrita Formation, Santa Maria Supersequence, upper portion of the Candelaria Sequence.
Biostratigraphy:
Age: Early Coloradian, Early Norian Stage, Late Triassic Epoch, Late Triassic.
Material: A partial skull, partial lower jaw, some verteral centra and a fragmentary scapula.
Referred material:
UFRGS-PV-0769-T: A left maxilla previously referred to Faxinalipterus minimus.
