Etymology: For the Majunga District of northwestern Madagascar, and Greek sauros, "lizard": Majunga lizard.

Etymology: Latin, crenatus, "notched" and the Greek, issimus, "most or very much," in reference to the numerous serrations on the edges of its teeth.

Locality: 2/3 km North of the Hotel Berivotro, in a village near Majunga, Madagascar.
