Etymology: Latin, murus, "wall," referring to the discovery of this specimen in the wall of a canyon, and Greek, raptor, "hunter."

Etymology: In reference to the Sierra Barrosa, Neuquen Province, Patagonia, Argentina, the locality where it was collected.

Holotype: MCF-PVPH 411

Locality: Sierra Barrosa, northeast of Plaza Huincal, Neuquen Province, Patagonia, Argentina.

Horizon: Sierra Barrosa Formation, Rio Neuquen Subgroup, Neuquen Group.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Neuquenian Tetrapoda Assemblage, Coniacian Stage, Lower Senonian Subepoch, Lower Gulf Epoch, Early Late Cretaceous.

Material: Complete braincase, lacrimal, prefrontal, postorbital, quadrate, pterygoid, ectopterygoid, teeth, 12 vertebrae, 11 thoracic ribs, 1 haemal arch, several gastralia, a manual ungual, complete left ilum, part of right ilium, proximal ends of the pubes, distal ends of the ischia, the right tibia, and a calcaneum.
