Etymology: Nqweba (n-KWE-bah), Xhose for the Kirkwood region, and Greek, sauros, “lizard”: Nqweba lizard.

Species: thwazi KLERK, FORSTER, SAMPSON, CHINSAMY, & ROSS, 2000
Etymology: Xhosa, thwazi (TWAH-zee), “fast runner.”

Holotype: AM 6040

Locality: 17 km west of Kirkwood village, 33°25’01”S, 25°15’83”E, Algoa Basin, Eastern Cape Province, South Africa.

Horizon: Unnamed uppermost member (coarse red-brown mudstone paleosol facies) of the Kirkwood Formation, Uitenhage Group.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Berriasian-Valanginian Stage, Lower-Middle Neocomian Subepoch, Lower Early Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.

Material: Fragmentary skull and nearly complete skeleton.
Note: Found with gastroliths.
