Etymology: Greek, ornith- (ornis) “bird” and Greek, lestes “robber”, Bird robber.

Species: hermanni OSBORN, 1903
Etymology: In honor of American Museum of Natural History preparator Adam Hermann.

Holotype: AMNH 619

Locality: Bone Cabin Quarry, 8 miles north of Como, Medicine Bow Anticline (also called Flat top Anticline), Albany County, Wyoming.

Horizon: Salt Wash Member, Morrison Formation.

Biostratigraphy: Zone 2.

Age: Comobluffian age, Kimmeridgian Stage, uppermost Malm Epoch, Late Jurassic.

Material: Skull, both mandibles, 3 cervical vertebrae, 11 dorsal vertebrae, 4 sacral vertebrae, 27 caudal vertebrae, both ischia, left ilium, both pubes missing the distal ends, incomplete left femur, proximal end of left fibula, both humeri, right metatarsal II, III and IV, left metatarsal IV, 4 phalanges of the pes, 2 pedal unguals, 1 right tarsal, right metacarpal II or III, fragments of two other metacarpals, 2 fragments of manus phalanges, 1 ungual of the manus and numerous fragments.
