Genus: Papillovenator PEI, QIN, WEN, ZHAO, WANG, LIU, GUO, LIU, YE, WANG, YIN, DAI, & XU, 2022
Etymology: Latin, papilio, "butterfly", referring to the unique shahpe of the neural arches of anteriormost dorsal vertebbrae, and Latin, venator, "hunter."
Species: neimengguensis PEI, QIN, WEN, ZHAO, WANG, LIU, GUO, LIU, YE, WANG, YIN, DAI, & XU, 2022
Etymology: In referrence to Inner Mongolia, teh autonomous region that produced the type specimen.
Holotype: BNMNH-PV030
Locality: Byan Manduhu Fossil Preserved, Bayan Manduhu, Wulatehouqi, Bayannur, inner Mongolia.
Horizon: Wulansuhai Formation.
Biostratigraphy:
Age: Campanian Stage, Senonian subepoch, Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.
Material: Semi-articulated skeleton comprising most of the cranial bones, most cervical vertebrae, the anterior dorsal vertebrae, partial scapulae, a parital right coraocid, a fragmentary pelvic girdle and fragmentary limb bones (including partial humeri, left ulna, left radius, partial manus, left femur, left tibia, left fibula, left pes and a right pedal phalanx II-3).
