Etymology: Greek, paraxeni, “strange”, and Greek, sauros, “reptile.”

Etymology: In honor of the Benemerita Escuela Normal de Coahuila (BENC), which is the foremost teacher training institution in the state of Coahuila. BENC is pioneer in the study and conservation of the regional paleontological heritage and an eductional resource for the local communities.

Holotype: BENC 2/2-001

Locality: Site BENC 1/1, near Presa San Antonio Town, Parras de la Fuente Municipality, 25°28'15"N, 101°42'00"W, Coahuila State, Mexico.

Horizon: Cerro del Pueblo Formation, Difunta Group.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Late Campanian or Early Maastrichtian Stage, Senonian Subepoch, Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: Proximal manual phalanx II-2 or III-3, partial right tarsals (astragalus and calcaneum) and partial left and right peses that include the shaft and distal end of metatarsal II, the proximal and distal ends of metatarsal III, the distal end of metatarsal IV, a complete pedal phalanx II-1, the proximal ends of pedal phalanges II-2 and III-3, complete pedal phalanges IV-1, IV-3, IV-4, and the partial pedal ungual IV-5.

Referred material:

BENC 1/2-0054: Distal ends of metacarpals I and II, proximal end of manual phalanx I-1, the distal end of manual phalanx II-2, and a partial manual ungual of digit I.

BENC 1/2-0091: Proximal end of metacarpal II, proximal and distal ends of metacarpal III, a partial femur, distal end of metatarsals IV, and several caudal vertebrae.
