Etymology: In reference to Patagonia and Greek, onychos, "claw."

Locality: Sierra del Portezuelo, 22km west of Plaza Huincul City, Neuquen Province, Northwest Patagonia, Argentina.

Horizon: Portezuelo Formation, Upper Rio Neuquen Subgroup, Middle Neuquen Group.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Neuquenian Tetrapoda Assemblage, Upper Turonian or Coniacian Stage, Lower Senonian Subepoch, Lower Gulf Epoch, Early Late Cretaceous.

Material: 2 incomplete dorsal vertebrae, incomplete sacrum, 2 proximal and 2 distal caudal vertebrae, incomplete left and right coracoids, proximal and distal ends of both humeri, right proximal portions of ulna and radius, and distal portion of left ulna, articulated carpometacarpus and first phalanx of digit I of the right manus, incomplete ungual phalanx probably corresponding to digit I, portions of ilia, proximal ends of ischia, portions of pubes, proximal and distal portions of right femur, and distal end of the left, proximal distal ends of both tibiae, fused with proximal tarsals, metatarsals II and III fused to distal tarsals III and several pedal phalanges.
