Genus: Philovenator XU, ZHAO, SULLIVNA, TAN, SANDER & MA, 2012
Etymology: In honors of Dr. Philip J. ("Phil") Currie for his contributions
to the study of maniraptoran dinosaurs, including the inital description of
IVPP V 10597. The genus name also recalls the combining form of Greek, philein,
"to love" and Latin, venator, "hunter"; suggesting a lover of the hunt.

Locality: Bayan Mandahu, Urad Houqi, Inner Mongolia (Nei Mongolia), China.

Biostratigraphy:
Age: Middle Campanian Stage, Senonian Subepoch, Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.
Material: Left hind limb consisting of a femur, partial tibia, partial fibula, astragalus, distal tarsals III and IV, metatarsals I, II, III, IV, and V, phalanges I-1, II-2, II-3, III-1, III-2, III-3, IV-1, IV-2, IV-3, IV-4 and IV-5 of a juvenile.
