Etymology: The genus name is fromed by Sauron, fictional character cvretated y J.R.R. Tolkien (1892-1973) and Greek, -ops, "eye".

Etymology: Greek, pachy, "thick", and Greek, tholus, "dome", refering the thickened frontal dome above teh orbit, diagnositc of this taxon.
Holotype: MPM 2594
Locality: Southest region of Taouz, 30°53'N, 3°58'W, Errachidia Province, Meknes-Tafilalet Region, Morocco.
Horizon: Ifezouane Formation.
Biostratigraphy:
Age: Cenomanian Stage, Uppermiddle Gallic Subepoch, Lowermost Gulf Epoch, Middle Cretaceous.
Material: An almost complete frontal.
