Genus: Saurophaganax CHURE, 1995
Etymology: From the Greek, saurophagos, "reptile-eater" (Greek, sauros, “lizard”, and Greek, phago, “eat”) and Greek, anax, "master, ruler, king": meaning “king of the reptile-eaters). This amplifies the meaning of the name in character with Stovall’s original concept.

Locality: Stovalls Pit 1 (Quarry No. 1), on Highway 64, 8 miles east of Kenton, Cimarron County, Oklahoma.

Biostratigraphy: Zone 3.

Age: Comobluffian age, Kimmeridgian Stage, uppermost Malm Epoch, Late Jurassic.

Material: A mid-dorsal neural arch.
