Genus: Sciurumimus RAUHUT, FOTH, TISCHLINGER, & NORELL, 2012
Etymology: The genus name is from the scientific name of the tree squirrels, Sciurus, and Greek, mimos, "mimic"; in reference to the busy tail of the animal.

Species: albersdoeferi RAUHUT, FOTH, TISCHLINGER, & NORELL, 2012
Etymology: In honor of Raimund Albersdörfer, who made the specimen available for study.

Holotype: BMMS BK 11

Locality: Rygol quarry, near Painten, Bayrn (Bavaria) State, Germany.

Horizon: Equivalent to the upper part of the Rögling Formation.

Biostratigraphy: Beckeri zone, Ulmense subzone, rebouletanum horizon.

Age: Upper Kimmeridgian Stage, Upper Malm Epoch, Middle Late Jurassic.

Material: Nearly complete skull and skeleton. Note: With feathers, smooth skin, and soft tissue impressions.
