Etymology: In reference to Shansah zhan, Turpan Basin China and the Shanshan Group of deposits and Greek, sauros “lizard”: Shanshan lizard.

Etymology:

Holotype: IVPP V4878

Locality: Lianmuxin, Shansan Xiar, Turpan Basin, Xinjiang Uygur Zizhiqu (Sinkang) Province, China.

Horizon: Subash Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: ?Campanian or Maastrichtian Stage, Senonian Subepoch, Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: Fragmentary skull and fragmentary skeleton.

Note: Juvenile.
