Genus: Shaochilong BRUSATTE, BENSON, CHURE, XU, SULLIVAN & HONE, 2009
Etymology: Chinese, Shaochi, "shark tooth", referring to the 'shark-toothed' carcharodontosaurid theropods, and Chinese, long, "dragon."

Etymology: In reference to Maortu, Alashan Desert, Nei Mongol Zizhique (Inner Mongolia), China.

Holotype: IVPP 2885.1-7

Locality: Approximately 60 km north of Chilantai (Jilantai: 39 45 N, 105 45E), on the east side of Chilantai Salt Lake (Chilantaiyen Chin), Maortu, Alashan Desert, Nei Mongol Zizhique (Inner Mongolia), China.

Horizon: Lower Dashuigou (Tashuikou) Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Albian Stage, Middle Gallic Subepoch, Upper Early Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.
