Etymology: Shidaisaurus is
derived from the second word of Jin-Shidai, the name of the company who owns
the "Jurassic World" at the fossil locality,
the Chinese word, Shidai, represents "times, age, era and epoch."

Etymology: The specific name is derived from the first word or character
of the Ji-Shidai Company, the Chinese word "Jin" is the metal gold
and often used as the first word of the names of companies of many kinds, indicating
that the companies would stand up forever as gold would.
Holotype: LDM-LCA 9701-IV
Locality: A'na, Laochanging village, Chuanjie township, Lufeng County, Yunnan Province, China.
Horiozon: Upper Lufeng Formation.

Age: Early Middle Jurassic.
Material: Fragmentary skull, teeth, partial skeleton that lacks most of the caudal vertebrae, ribs, pectoral girdles, and limb bones.
