Genus: Tachiraptor LANGER, RINCON, RAMEZANI, SOLORZANO & RAUHAUT, 2014
Etymology: The generic name derives from Tachira, the Venezuelan state where the fossil was found, and Latin, raptor, "theif"; in reference to the probable predatory habits of the animal.

Etymology: In honor of Simon Bolivar's Admirable Campagin', in which La Grita, the town where the type locality is located, played a strategic role.

Holotype: IVIC-P-2867

Locality: Road-cut at a secondary road 72°01'06.60 W, 08°09'03.47 N, next to the north of the type-section and about 4 km northwest of the town of La Grita, Jauregui municipality, Tachira State, Venezula.

Horizon: La Quinta Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Hettangian Stage, Lower Lias Epoch, Early Jurassic.

Material: Nearly complete right tibia.
