Etymology: Generic name from Xixia (area of orign), Henan Province, China and Greek, onyx, "claw."

Etymology: In honor of Prof. Zhang Wentang, who has contributed greatly to
the study of paleontology in Henan Province.
Holotype: XMDFEC V0011
Locality: Zhoujiagou, Yangcheng, Xixia County, Henan Province, China.
Horizon: Majiacun Formation.
Biostratigraphy:
Age: Coniacian-Santonian Stage, Senonian Subepoch, Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.
Material: 5 posterior dorsal vertebrae, a complete synascrum, 2 anterior caudal
vertebrae, a few dorsal ribs, gastralia, both ilia, right pubis, right ischium,
and most of right hind limb.
