Etymology: In reference to the Yixian County, China, where the type specimen was found, and Greek, sauros,
"lizard."

Species: longmanus XU & WANG, 2003
Etymology: Lating, long, "long" and Latin, manus, "hand": for the significantly elongated manus.

Locality: Wangjiagou, Yixian County, western Liaoning Province, China.

Horizon: Yixian Formation (Jiufotang Formation, = Chaomidianzi Formation of Ji et al, 1998), Jehol Group.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Barremian Stage, Early Gallic Subepoch, Middle Early Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.

Material: Articulated remains of almost complete shoulder girdles, and forelimbs and some ribs.

Note: Filamentous integumentary structures are preserved adjacent to theforelimes, but are undecernable (Xu, et al., 2006).
