Genus: Ypupiara BRUM, PEGAS, BANDEIRA, SOUZA, CAMPOS & KELLNER, 2021
Etymology: 'Ypupiara', which means 'the one who lives in the water', an allusion to the Tupian myth about an aquatic creature. This also alludes to the infered fish diet of Ypupiara.

Etymology: In honor of Alberto Lopa (of the former Divisao de Geologia e Minerologia, Departamento Nacional de Producao Mineral-DNPM of Peiropolis). He is responsible, together with Llewellyn I. Price for starting the systematic palaeontological exploration of the region of Peiropolis, Minas Gerias state, and for recovering most of the material studied by Price. In addition, Alberto Lopa also recovered the fossil material studied here.

Locality: Caiera site (also known as Ponto 1 do Price), Serra do Veadinho, close to Peiropolis, a rural distict of Uberaba, on road BR 262, Mines Gerais State, Brazil ([Locality 120 of Bertini, 1993)], an abandoned quarry from Sao Luis Farm, Veadinho Hill, situated about 2 km north of Peiropolis, Municipality of Uberaba, Minas Gerais State, Brazil).

Horizon: Marilia Formation, Bauru Group.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Maastrichtian Stage, Late Senonian Subepoch, Late Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: A partial preantorbital portion of a right maxillary, with 3 teeth in loci, adn partial posterior portion of a right dentary.
