Etymology: Chinese, zhong, "middle or intermediate" and Greek, ornis, "bird."

Species: haoae GAO, CHIAPPE, MENG, O’CONNOR, WANG, CHENG, & LIU, 2008
Etymology: In honor of Ms. Hao, who kindly donated the specimen to the Dalian Natural History Museum.

Holotype: Dalian Natural History Museum, D2455/6

Locality: Lingyuan City, Liaoning Province, China.

Horizon: Upper Yixian Formation, Dawangzhangzi bed.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Early Cretaceous.

Material: Skull and nearly complete skeleton of a juvenile.

Note: Faint traces of feathers.
