Etymology: Greek, aktios, "shore or beach" and gavialis.

Species: puertoricensis VELEZ-JUARBE, BROCHU & SANTOS, 2007
Etymology: In reference to Puerto Rico, where it was found.

Holotype: UPRMP 3094

Locality: Along Rio Guatemala near the town of San Sebastian, Puerto Rico.

Horizon: San Sebastian Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Oligocene Epoch, Upper Paleogene Period, Lower Tertiary Subera, Lower Cenozoic Era.

Material: Incomplete skull including the braincase adn skull table behind the orbits.

Species: caribesi SALAS-GISMONDI, MORENO-BERNAL, SCHEYER, SANCHEZ-VILLAGRA, & JARAMILO, 2018
Etymology: After the 'Caribes', a native ethnic group of northern Venezuela who fished across the Caribbean sea.

Holotype: MCNC 95-72V

Locality: Pipline locliaty of Patterson Field Notes, 350 m North from Kilometre 157 of teh Pipline, Urumaco area, Venezuela.

Horizon: Urumaco Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Miocene Epoch, Lower Neogene Period, Upper Tertiary Subera, Middle Cenozoic.

Material: Skull and partial mandible.
