Etymology: In reference to the Culebra Formation (culebra is Spanish for snake) from which the holotpe and only know fossil was discovered, and Greek, suchos, "crocodile."

Etymology: Species name for Central America ('meso' from Greek 'mesos' for middle or central, and 'americanus', meaning America), the region where the holotype was found.

Holotype: UF 244434

Locality: El Lirio Norte Site, Panama Canal Zone, 9.0535°N, 78.6571°W, Panama.

Horizon: Culebra Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Early to Middle Epoch, Lower Neogene Period, Upper Tertiary Subera, Middle Cenozoic Era.

Material: Skull including left jugal, maxilla, partial premaxilla, right lacrimal and partial prefrontal, nearl complete left dentary with partial angular and suranglar, anteror rightdentary and partial right maxilla, braincase, 20 teeth in articulate, and teeth, and three cervical vertebrae.
