Species: elavericus MARTIN, 2010
Etymology: ‘elavericus’ referes to the Latin name of Allier River:
Elaver. Note that Bravard (1843) used ‘Crocodilius elaveris’ to
designate various crocodilian remains from Allier but did not provide any description,
nor did he figure any specimens. As Vaillant (1872) pointed out, this early
mention cannot be considered as having any right of priority over Diplocynoond
ratelii, given the absence of a description or figure. ‘Crocodilus
elaveris’ should
be considered as a nomen nudum.
